DIY Dried Floral Wreath
Have you ever wanted to go on adventure like you are in the secret garden and come back with little reminders you went into a magical place? Well that is what these dried floral wreaths remind me of and the best part is it is extremely affordable AND you get to go on adventure.
Vines & Flowers…
The only items you need to buy would be some twine (and this is $1). You could also buy some floral wire to make it extra sturdy, but you don’t have to.
Next, head outside to find all the items you would love to make your wreath with. Bendy vine branches work amazingly, so if you have a muscadine vine that would be ideal as those branches wrap around each other and stay in organic little circles. I have also used something you can find in most yards or on the side of roadways as blockers and that is Elaeagnus. It is very bendy when it is fresh and gives a very ethereal feel with the pretty bark and stems of leaves.
Once you have your vines picked out, now is the time to go looking for the flowers or leaves you want to add! If you have any dried flowers already, you can use those, or search for wildflowers and pretty bushes in your yard or the side of roadways. Roses work well, Chrysanthemums, Baby’s-breath, grab some wildflowers to try out and see how they dry. You can get herbs to add like French or English lavender, rosemary, thyme. Just use whatever you like. You can even grab bushes like Loropetalums to add in some color.
Wrapping the vines…
If you have muscadine vines, just take one of the ends and start twisting it around the other piece in a circle. You can make the circle as big or as large as the vine allows. I like to take the little tendrils that poke off the vine and use those to keep the vines in place. If using another type of vine or bush branch, do the same thing but you may need to some twine or floral wire to keep the vines in place.
Once you have your complete circle, you can continue to add in other vines, mix it up, or just add more of the same to the degree of thickness you want. I usually like my wreaths to be about 3 wraps of vines to be delicate but full.
Adding the flowers…
You can add the flowers/leaves in different ways. You can tie all the items together in a little mini bouquet bundle and keep loose florals to use after we wrap twine around the wreath vine.
If you tie them in a bundle, make a mini bouquet however large you want and wrap twine or floral wire around the bouquet to keep them together. Then choose what part of the wreath you want to add the floral bouquet to and use more twine to wrap and adhere it to the vine. Make sure you wrap it tight enough that it stays.
If you choose the loose florals you will need to first use twine to wrap it around the middle of the vine wreath multiple times until it is very sturdy and tight. Once you have it sturdy and tight you can place loose florals, branches, leaves in the center. You can change these out as desired.
